ACCELER8 - MAY 23rd 2008

Postby benfusion on Mon May 05, 2008 2:29 am

Acceler8 is proud to announce it's very special line for May.
Once again we at the Barn Club in Penzance and promise to bring you the very best mix of fresh, exciting local DJ talent!

To kick things off this month we welcome DJ RAW to warm things up!
Originally cutting his teeth on the illegal rave scene in the early 90's DJ Raw had a heavy influence within the South West hosting Trans4mation. He could also been seen playing at the now much missed Shire Horse, spinning along side Hardcore favourites Ramos, Sy, Easygroove and Hixxy. In '96 Raw took a break from all things musical due to other commitments, but in 2007 DJ Raw was back with a brand new sound and a fresh new enthusiasm for all things House & Electro.
For more information on DJ Raw visit http://www.myspace.com/thisisyourcaptain

Next up we have a very special battle - MAX HONEYMAN vs. SHAUN H.
Both are Acceler8 regulars and for those who have heard them play will testify this 'battle' looks a real belter!
Max is the Barn Club resident DJ and Movida Corona DJ Competition finalist. Having played at all the major venues across Cornwall and even at the Ministry of Sound in London you know you are in good hands! More information on Max visit http://www.myspace.com/djmaxhoneyman or http://www.littlesouth.com/max_honeyman.html
Shaun H is with out doubt the most exciting Electro / House DJ to emerge recently within the South West, solid performances at previous Acceler8 nights have earned him a loyal following. With experience playing for Kool FM and a past residency in Mauritius for Addictivetour.com (supported by Ministry of Sound) Shaun has a excellent pedigree! Shaun's information can be found at http://www.myspace.com/lilshaunh

Acceler8's resident Trance don BEN FUSION is next to grace the grace the decks.
Already well respected through out the Trance community Ben is a rising star within the South West. For those who have seen him play will know that 100% is given behind the decks every time and with a talent to read the crowd this set will promise to be a stormer! Expect only the best in upfront tune selection and atmosphere!
For Ben Fusion's vital statistics visit http://www.myspace.com/benfusion or http://www.littlesouth.com/ben_fusion.html

Stepping up next we are excited to present a very special treat! FREDDIE B.
Playing a heart stopping selection of the freshest Freeform and Drum & Bass this looks set to be the most talked about performances this year! Already gaining a reputation as probably the South West's newest scratch king, Freddie B is a man not to be missed! This mix of two different styles is all set to be off the hook!

Last not by no means least we are very proud to present our special guest this month, Plymouth's number 1 Hard Techno & Schranz DJ, GEOFF NUGENT.
Geoff's journey into music started way back in 1989 when he discovered Acid House. From there he purchased his first pair of decks and self-taught himself to mix. Widely regarded as one of the best Hard Techno mixers in the business he has played at some of the best venues in the South West including Candy Store and Dance Academy as well as gigs in Newcastle, Bristol and South Wales. Geoff has played alongside some of the best in Hard Dance including M-Zone, Cally & Juice, The Organ Donors, Billy 'Daniel' Bunter, Scott Brown, Hixxy, Lisa Pin-Up and many, many more!
Geoff's mixes have also been played on Radio across Europe for TECHNO.FM and Hardbass Radio. Geoff also produces his own music under his PYROBOY guise and runs his own label - Relentless Schranz recordings.
This really is going to be a special set and is not to be missed!
For more information on Geoff visit http://www.geoffnugent.co.uk or http://www.myspace.com/pyroboytechno
P.S. For those who are wondering - Schranz is the name given to European (especially German) hard techno, a style of techno typically around 150-170 BPM and based around massively bass-heavy kick drums, driving percussion and distorted, looping synth noises. The music can however be slower.

Origin of the term: The term originated in 1994 when Frankfurt-based DJ Chris Liebing used it to describe a certain type of techno when searching for records at the now closed "Boy Records" store in Frankfurt. The next time he visited the shop, the owner had a selection of harder techno records filed under "Schranz". -- "For me personally, since that day in 1994, "Schranz" is a description for various dark and distorted sounds in Techno" (Chris Liebing 2002). To this day, there still remains speculation about the meaning of the word "Schranz" within the Techno scene. While many believe it to simply imitate the sound of a crunchy lo-fi percussion loop, there are other interpretations. For one it is a surname found predominantly in Austria. Also, "schranzen" means to eat loudly and voraciously in Dutch slang. There are speculations, however, that it was meant as a contraction of the two German verbs schreien (scream) and tanzen (dance), i.e. "schr-anz".

Doors open 10.30pm - 4am. Door Tax £5 b4 12am £6 After.
Full Decor, Intelligent lighting, Chill out room, Outside Smoking Area, Opus Sound System, CD Give-aways and so much more!

Yes it is the same weekend as RTTS, but RTTS is over 2 days with probably the stand out DJ - Sander Van Doorn playing the Sat. This Acceler8 is going to be off the hook, some of the sets are looking amazing, personally I can't wait to hear Freddie B and his Freeform vs Drum & Bass.... it's YOUR chance to support YOUR local DJ's!! The dance scene in Cornwall is weak compaired to others on a national level so nights like this need locals to show their faces  I think the job we do in bringing underground clubbing music to venues like this is to show people that they don't have to listen to the standard chart 'n cheese but to listen to real club music!

Have to agree Ben. Im really looking forward to it (as always). Its just nice to have a night where nobody's afraid of pushing barriers. I get so fed up with hearing the same old generic cheese time after time. I know that there are some exceptions to this and some really good nights out there, but the point is that these are the minority, and need to be supported.

As for the 23rd, I cant wait. Its really rare I get the opportunity to spin the 2 genre's I love most. Looking forward to seeing everyone play. There's some real talent there, and always a good vibe. Should be a stomper
