We're rather excited to have Jay come spin a few for us at Simian Sounds!
"Jay Stewart has been involved in music from the age of ten. He is a talented Jazz/Funk drummer who is very passionate about fat beats and funky grooves. He has performed in many live acts from Funk to Drum 'n' Bass and has studied music his entire life. He has a Jazz Degree and has recently acquired a PGCE in teaching music.
Jay began DJ'ing/Producing 4 years ago after hearing some quality breakbeat from the plumps album 'A Plump Night Out!' This was where he wanted to go next! After 3 years in the breakbeat scene Jay is still a fresh face and his sound is certainly making an impact among some top DJ's. Jay found a home at 'Re:connect Recordings' record label under the name Refunk where he has had a string of successful releases, one of which (It's groovy') was used by the Plump DJ's on their mix for MIXMAG in 2005.
Jay has also released on Jay Cunning's and Terry Hooligan's 'Menu Music' where his latest single 'Don't do it' has been smashing floors world wide. Jay has recently signed up with Groove Diggerz label 'Breakin' Even' and is putting out quality releases which is earning him much respect from label bosses and other top artists.
Currently Jay has collaborated with top Irish producers Funkasaurus and created a monster which will be out on ibreaks. He is working on fresh material of his own which will be out on 'Re:connect' and 'Breakin' Even' over the next few months. He is also working on Remixes for Cut La Roc and Groove Diggerz. Jay Stewart is certainly one to watch in 2008 because he is coming up!!!!!!"
