....or, somehow it all seems to be a question of degree....

if it's ripped off a multi-millionaire soopastar, I'm sure they won't miss the royalties more than I'd miss the tenner the CD'd cost, whereas if it's an up and coming, struggling 'local' band / producer / whatever (not even 'up and coming' necessarily, thinking about it), then they deserve (and probably need) every penny they can get, so it'd be wholly unfair to rip them off....bit like Bill Gates and Microsoft kinda thing......

Disclaimer:- the above is merely one point of view in support of the thread and not necessarily that of the author of this particular post :thumbsup

I don’t have a problem with downloading and listening, or mixing 'illegal' tracks, providing its done at home and not being 'played out' in a club.

You can spoil your reputation if you purposefully go out into a club armed with track's that should not even be available for legitimate download, let alone be played in a public dj set. It's fine if the producer has given you prior permission to do so, or if you are on the promo mailing list from the said label but that’s it in my opinion.

I think it’s unfair to exploit producers (dance producers in particular) as I don’t believe they will see mega bucks until they are pretty well established (the likes of Armin, Above & Beyond for example). The people pushing dance music forward should be given respect financially so they can carry on doing what they do best!

Just my thoughts..

You think you guys get stung! I have to pay 97 pounds a year for PPL and then mine is with a spacific company that supplies music so i can only play their CD's and they cost 16. 50 a go! and we get checked up on all the tim. That's just to keep fit!
